ArrivaGroups is located in San José, Costa Rica and this is where the procedure will be performed. The Inlay or Onlay deal is offered by the Dental Group of Costa Rica®, whose dentists are among the finest in the world.

Overview – Inlay/Onlay
Inlays or onlays are lab made restorations that are placed on teeth when the cavity or lost tooth structure is too large to be restored by a simple filling.

An inlay is done when the tooth structure replaced is within the cusp tips of the tooth. If the damage is more extensive and the new structure covers the entire chewing surface including one or more tooth cusps, the procedure is called an onlay.

More conservative than a crown, inlays and onlays are excellent methods of restoring normal tooth structure after decay or other damage. Inlays and onlays are known as indirect fillings because unlike a standard filling that is done in a dentist’s office, both are made in a laboratory and cemented or bonded to the surface of the tooth during the visit.

And unlike standard fillings, inlays and onlays do not weaken the tooth structure, but actually strengthens it. After the procedure, the tooth can bear up to 50 to 75 percent more chewing force.

Description
The process of making an inlay or only is very similar to a crown. After the tooth is prepared, it is cemented or bonded to the tooth.

There are different materials that inlays are made of, for instance porcelain and composite resins. Porcelain and composite inlays and onlays are cosmetic alternatives to fillings and are very strong compared to regular white fillings.

In general, inlays and onlays can replace most back teeth fillings and provide a better alternative to conventional fillings. At the same time they are more conservative than crowns.

Procedure
Little advance preparation is needed for an inlay or onlay procedure.

Inlays and onlays are performed using very similar procedures. The dentist begins the procedure by numbing the area using a local anesthetic. The decay or damage is removed and the tooth is prepared for its new surface.

An impression is made of the prepared tooth so the inlay or onlay material can be cast in a form that will fit the tooth exactly. A temporary restoration is placed on the tooth to protect it until the laboratory makes the new structure for bonding to the tooth.

Using the impression, a laboratory prepares the new tooth surface using gold, porcelain, or composite resin. Upon return to the dentist’s office, the temporary restoration is removed and the surface is cleaned to prepare for the new structure. The dentist will then fit and adjust the new restoration to ensure that there is a perfect fit that doesn’t interfere with your bite.

Once adjusted, using special cement or bonding, the inlay or onlay is permanently attached to the tooth. Some minor adjustment may need to be made to the restoration if there are interferences. To finish the procedure, the dentist will polish the cemented or bonded structure and tooth.

The procedure takes about 30 to 60 minutes per tooth to complete.

Number of Days
Only one visit is necessary to Costa Rica for the Implant Inlay or Onlay procedure and you will be here for only 1 day. You should allow one day for arrival, so 2 days will be the full total.

If you have other combinations of medical or dental procedures in mind, we will write to you with the total number of days needed for the combination.
